Privacy Policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
Te Reo Makitaunu is operated by Taimona Panapa, a sole trader based in Aotearoa New Zealand (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how we handle personal information in the Te Reo Makitaunu school portal at tereomakitaunu.online and the TRM Tests app (together, the “Service”). We follow the Information Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 2020.
Who this policy covers
Schools purchase licences and add their own managers, teachers and students. For teacher and student accounts we hold information on behalf of the school, which decides who has an account. If you are a student or parent and have questions about why an account exists, please contact your school first; you are also welcome to contact us.
Information we collect
Account information
- Name, email address, role (manager, teacher or student), school and class.
- Your password, which is stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider. We never see it.
- If you sign in with Google, the name and email address Google shares with us.
Learning information
- Lesson progress, video position, completed modules, quiz answers and scores.
- Points, streaks, badges and whether you appear on your school’s leaderboard.
- TRM Tests results: the student name and year level entered for the test, answers and scores.
School and billing information
- School name and contact details, the number of licensed seats and licence dates.
- Payment records such as amounts and payment references. Card details are entered directly with Stripe, our payment provider, and are never stored by us.
Technical and security information
- Sign-in sessions (used to keep each account signed in on one device at a time), IP addresses for rate limiting and for audit records of administrative actions such as password resets and removals.
- Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider for a short period.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell personal information.
How we use it
- To provide accounts, courses, progress tracking, quizzes, leaderboards and tests.
- To let teachers and school managers see their students’ progress and results.
- To manage school licences, seats and payments.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent misuse and fix problems.
- To contact school managers about their licence or the Service.
Who can see it
- Your school: managers can see members of their school; teachers can see students in their class, including progress and test results.
- Classmates: students’ names and points appear on their school’s leaderboard unless they turn this off in the course page.
- Us: for support, administration and security.
Service providers and where information is stored
We use these providers to run the Service. Some store or process information outside New Zealand:
- Supabase — database and sign-in. Data is stored in Sydney, Australia.
- Vercel — hosting of the website; requests are processed on servers in the United States.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Vimeo — course videos are streamed from Vimeo, which receives standard technical information when a video plays.
- Google — only if you choose “Continue with Google” to sign in.
We choose providers that protect information in ways comparable to the Privacy Act and only share what each needs to provide its service.
How long we keep it
We keep account and learning information while the school holds a licence and the account remains. When a school removes a member or asks us to close its account, we delete or de-identify that information within 90 days, except where we must keep records for legal, tax or accounting reasons (for example, payment records are kept for 7 years).
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, access is restricted by role, and only the minimum number of people can access it. If a privacy breach causes or is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Privacy Act requires.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Students and parents may also ask their school. Email rangikaiata@tereomakitaunu.com and we will respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change and, for significant changes, let school managers know.
